About Us
Sustainable Management Corp. is not transformative, we are not disruptive, we do not offer any silver bullets nor smoke and mirrors, and we are definitely not shifting any paradigms. We are neither unique nor special but simply a global recycling brokerage company striving to bring value mutuality and equitable balance between our trusted suppliers and our competent buyers for every transaction. We focus on difficult to recycle materials and combo loads. The process by asking many, many questions to make sure what the suppliers is shipping is what the buyer receives. When problems occur, we gather all the facts from everyone, including third party assayers, to review weights, recoveries, contaminants, moistures, and assays to obtain a final settlement that is acceptable for everyone.
Our buyers/consumers believe that we qualify our suppliers of recyclable metals, oxides, and residues prior to shipping and our suppliers, who are scrap dealers, processors, or manufacturers believe that we have properly vetted our consumers inasmuch as they ethically and sustainably handle their raw materials for downstream recycling.
One of the factors that differentiates us from many brokers and direct consumers is our ability to sell combination loads whereas the supplier can load multiple items into a single container or truck. One of many challenges to a scrap metal processor or generator is their buying of small lots that are rarely accumulated into twenty ton lots. Combination loads also enable the scrap dealer to increase the frequency of shipments thus returning profits more promptly.

Responsible for trading and brokering
Michael Friedman began his career in the scrap metal business in 1976 when he was hired as a buyer for Colonial Metals in Columbia, Pennsylvania. Traditional training began in the warehouse with metal sorting of brasses and bronzes. Buying from scrap dealers, processors, factories, chemical plants and military bases throughout North America rounded out an invaluable educational experience. Colonial then transferred Michael to Chicago to sell ingots to foundries throughout the Central Time Zone.
Friedman Metals was created in 1984 then sold in 2000 to Industrial Services of America located in Louisville, Kentucky. Scrap and Waste Corp later became Sustainable Management in 2009 to focus on buying, selling, and brokering difficult to market metals, oxides, and residues throughout the world.
A graduate from the University of Miami and regular attendee of conferences at the Colorado School of Mines, Michael also serves as a moderator for ISRI Roundtables and Conferences as well as speaking, consulting, and writing articles relative to the recycling industry.
